Keeping Up With Former Coworkers

Yesterday I went up to Madison Square Park to catch up with my friend and former boss at Sony Masterworks. We talked for a couple of hours about what had been going on in each other's respective music scenes, and a whole lot has changed in the three or so years since we worked together. I chose the path of a full-time musician, supported only by music sales and royalties, and Masterworks has been involved in producing new creative projects like SpongeBob: The Musical. Reconnecting with my friend not only made me realize the obvious, that things change. It made me realize that it’s important to reconnect, and not for the reasons you might think. As you live your life and make a career for yourself, there is uncertainty for the future. But that’s the same for every single person in the world. Everyone will experience uncertainty in some capacity, and no one is guaranteed the future they seek. So always keep your options open and be nice to the people you work with, because you never know when or where you’ll be working with them again or bouncing creative ideas off of them. One idea was to create an electronic music-themed Broadway musical, which I think would be a fun challenge! Regardless of what you talk about though, it’s just good to stay involved in the lives of the people who work in your field of business. You’ll form new ideas and make connections along the way to help achieve your business goals. That’s all for now…
